Details illustrated. Patric Sandri
Patric Sandri was born in Uster, Switzerland. Growing up in the small suburb of Zurich, he didn't discover his love for art until he attended college; in fact he went through most of his education with focus in maths. It was when he landed in Lucerne that shift his studies to art, majoring in visual communications and specializing in illustration.
He explored his possibilities abroad in London, where he created a visual essay in the suburbs of the city. The experience taught him a great deal about composition, colors, painting and collage, which is what the majority of his mixed media tends to incorporate. In 2010 he completed his Master of Arts at the Royal College in Art in London. His work picks up everyday life as well as contemporary issues.
These inputs are his way of encouraging the public to reflect and to form a certain opinion. His eye for detail and taste for subtlety makes Sandri stand out as an artist that most certainly has knack for creating pieces that will be sure to make everyone look twice.
Pure, proud, naive, unlimited, powerful, unique, anarchistic, intuitive… these were the definitions I started with. Soon I thought about the animal kingdom. Imaginary and real beasts emerged while drawing. Sometimes you also adapt the character of a person with characteristics of a special animal. I intentionally mixed species without looking into their origin. Almost automatically I produced several interpretations of current topics like climate change, living together, and developed a sort of “Busy Picture”, letting the viewer discover something new over and over again. My idea was to spread the drawings all over the bag. I also wanted people to play with opening and discovering the bag like an adventure. My drawings cover the complete bag while restraining the color. To meet the material, I wanted these drawings literally painted on the bag.
