Interlinking old and new.
Patrick Hartl was born in 1976. Today, he lives and works in Munich
as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. He has been involved
in art and design for over 15 years, and his works have been displayed
in various cities, including San Francisco, Fresno, Amsterdam,
Frankfurt, Offenbach, Munich, and Augsburg.
Starting with graffiti, his path led him across a multitude of experiments,
including mainly illustration, calligraphy, and digital compositing.
Hartl prefers handcrafted designs and, due to their honesty,
non-computerized analog works. Yet the possibilities offered by digital
design are undoubtedly very tempting and therefore can't be
rejected completely. Currently, the biggest attraction for Hartl lies
in the combination of both techniques, allowing him to use each
technique's advantages – and thus interlinking the old with the new.
The frame.bag with its unspoiled white surface and textile structure inspired me to see this bag as a conventional canvas. For the composition, I made use of the same materials and colors, the same techniques, and the same methods I always use to express my style when I’m working. That’s what turned the bag into one of my unmistakable "Hartl Originals."
An original and an innovation at the same time. Taking the frame.
bag everywhere urban life demands means carrying an authentic painting with you. Taking my work out of its usual context of galleries or show rooms, and into real life outdoors – to where my roots as a graffiti artist are.
